Changing my vote…

I’d initially been intrigued by Ron Paul, mainly because of his outspoken and frank positions on homeschooling. But as he has gained support, it seems the anti-war portion of his platform has become louder and more shrill. I’d actually had “him” (not run by him directly) on my MySpace friends and just removed him because of that.
My support is now to Mike Huckabee. He also is a strong advocate of homeschooling (see below), but more importantly for the majority of voters, he actually wants to make the distinction between federal and state roles in education clear. Federalism and states’ rights, my friends, rather than everything driven by the large states…predominantly CA and NY…and by the NEA.
Here’s two points he makes on his website:
- I have been a strong, consistent supporter of the rights of parents to home school their children, of creating more charter schools, and of public school choice.
- We need a clear distinction between federal and state roles in education. While there is value in the “No Child Left Behind” law’s effort to set high standards, states must be allowed to develop their own benchmarks.
