Exemptions from Healthcare Plan

In the quest for actual answers, I just sent the following off to Senator Patty Murray’s office:

I am reading through the healthcare bill, but am not sure that I’m clear about the section: EXEMPTIONS FROM INDIVIDUAL RESPONSIBILITY REQUIREMENTS. It seems to indicate the categories of potential exemptions, but does not seem clear as to what criteria is being used to “certify” individuals. Can you clarify? Thank you very much.

Will post answer when received as well as additional research.

PS For fun, just emailed the same to Senator Cantwell’s office.

PPS For reference, the listed possible exemptions are as follows:

1. a member of an exempt religious sect or division,
2. a member of a health care sharing ministry,
3. as an Indian (Native American),
4. an individual eligible for a hardship exemption

4 Comments For This Post I'd Love to Hear Yours!

  1. You don't REALLY expect any sort of coherent response do you?

  2. ~Crystal~ says:

I am really interested to see what they say back!

  3. Scott says:

No, I actually expect carbon copies of the same response…whatever the party line is.

  4. Good questions, Scott.I highly recommend a "a member of a health care sharing ministry" like <a rel="nofollow" rel="nofollow">Samaritan Ministries (we're members) or Christian Care Medi-Share. (There are a few others, but these are the two largest.)The cost per family at Samaritan is $285/mo. Way less than any insurance premium I've ever heard of. And, the money goes (a) directly to the family in need, and (b) not for anything Christians would consider immoral.Disclosure: I do not get paid, but I do get a referral discount if you tell them I sent you; but you certainly don't have to. 🙂
