My Reasons for Self-Employment (Part 2)

This reason is one of the most fundamental: so that I can make my own mistakes.

You see, when you work for someone else, you are following their way of doing things. Sometimes these ways are good, but often times they are ill-conceived, based off factors from years past, or are simply without basis and inefficient. But because you are the employee, these are not your rules to change.

With self-employment, I’m free to make my own mistakes. And more importantly, to own them.  There is nothing more potent (and sometimes sobering) than being the only one to whom criticism can be directed.

But…it also means all praise, all compliments, all thank yous (and yes, all revenue…but that’s for another post)  from clients is directed only to you.
