How I Almost Drowned Tonight…

Yes, dramatic title.
Setting: kitchen table, tonight, as we were doing our read-aloud of Carry On, Mr. Bowditch. The below scenario in which I inhaled a mouthful of water and almost drowned.
Background: a couple chapters previously, the booked mentioned something about a sextant, which, of course, is a navigational instrument. However, I created an alternate definition, mainly to embarrass my daughter, based on the pronunciation…as in the smaller separate tent we might take camping that is just for mommy and daddy.
With that in mind, here was tonight’s excerpt:
He gave Nat a sextant. “You’ll catch on to using it in no time,” he said.
“I’ve tried them out–on land of course. I guess at sea…” Nat paused.
If you have the book, that’s chapter 11, about 2/3 of the way through. For the sake of all that’s good, don’t read what immediately follows…
