Ever felt that this?
Working to afford things that you don’t really need or impress people that don’t really care…or simply just knowing that there’s so much more out there…
In this country the rat race can wear you down and take over everything.
There’s a stirring going on in our family. JoAnn’s read (and we’re now reading together as a family) the book Kisses from Katie. Here’s the summary:
What would cause an eighteen-year-old senior class president and homecoming queen from Nashville, Tennessee, to disobey and disappoint her parents by forgoing college, break her little brother’s heart, lose all but a handful of her friends (because they think she has gone off the deep end), and break up with the love of her life, all so she could move to Uganda, where she knew only one person and didn’t even speak the language?
A passion to follow Jesus.
Was thinking back and had to check my emails for the dates, but it’s now coming up on 4 years ago when I came this close to a position at a Christian international school in Malaysia. Earlier this year, a friend accepted a position at a church in Indonesia, two other families I know moved to Mexico to work with Youth With A Mission, and someone else I know via social media is about the head out to Cambodia.
The stirring is beginning again…to live something other than this rat-race, privileged-American, consumerist, debt-ridden way of life…to live in purpose and service. To go where He sends.
I will lead the blind by ways they have not known,
along unfamiliar paths I will guide them;
I will turn the darkness into light before them
and make the rough places smooth.
These are the things I will do;
I will not forsake them.
