Losing a reader…over public school comments

Got an anonymous comment on the latest blog about one of the local public schools (below). Apparently didn’t like what they considered bashing.

Ok – so you’ve lost me as a blog reader. I have enjoyed reading about your family but I’m tired of reading about how bad you think the public schools are. I know this is your blog and you can post whatever you wish; I just don’t care to read to read it anymore.

Seems I touched a nerve, eh? Well, as I responded to the comment, it is indeed my blog, and yes, I do think public schools can be bad when the focus is on anything and everything but learning. For that I give no apology. And to have (in this case) the lack of learning AT A HIGH SCHOOL LEVEL so proudly out there for the world to see as a demonstration of its learning, well…they deserve the attention and ridicule. (Even more so when there seems to be spell-check integrated into nearly everything these days…)

As an aside, I know there are some good public schools and some very excellent teachers in those schools. But the system itself is failing, and that’s what I poke with my stick. We’re failing against other nations almost completely, we’re failing against private schools, and we’re failing against the growing bulk of homeschooling. And the only response from the NEA is to send more money their way…
