The Family Tree…

I alluded to the call from Grandma earlier in the week. She’s still at the farm in MT, still ornery as ever, and still spillin’ the beans on everyone and everything imaginable.
Which got me thinking–a project I’ve been working on for quite a few years, off and on, is the family tree. Unfortunately, I really only know about my maternal grandpa’s side. Convoluted story, but my grandma isn’t really my blood grandma, though she is and always will be grandma. My grandpa was married before, and that woman (who was my mom’s mom), apparently abandoned the family when my mother was still a baby. My grandpa remarried and they’ve been together now like 61 years.
Anyway, all that aside, I came across a site completely by chance that is really interesting. It’s called Geni (at http://www.geni.com) and it is an online family tree creator. Big whoop. The difference, though, is that this is our new wonderful Web 2.0, and this family tree is interactive. You can add people into the tree, and include email for the ones that have email, and they get invited to join and add! The tree grows pretty rapidly, too.
The site is in Beta, and at this point doesn’t tie into any databases or allow importing (that I’ve found), but the idea itself is intriguing. Check it out!
