NEA Quote Supporting Homeschooling (Kinda)

NEA President Reg Weaver: “It has been obvious for years that home educators are kicking our asses. Their kids are smart, polite, well spoken, and well versed on the issues of the day. I can’t say that for most of the members of this union, let alone our students. They really aren’t that different from us. They care deeply about children, and I think both professional teachers and homeschoolers have a whole lot to learn from each other. This can best be accomplished by working together.”

Ironic on so many levels.

If homeschoolers are kicking the asses of public school kids, what is it that homeschool educators are going to learn from public school teachers?

If homeschoolers are kicking the asses of public school kids, how can it be said that public school teachers and home educators aren’t that different?

If homeschoolers are kicking the asses of public school kids, what good does working together do?

Actually, that last one I can answer. It’s the entire basis of the NEA: control. Despite their designation of being a professional organization and labor union, they are primarily–and almost exclusively–a very focused, highly monopolistic political farce force.
