Not Very Anonymous…
- by Scott
So I get a few hits to the blog and my other site this evening from someone using a website that claims to provide a “free proxy to surf the internet anonymously whilst hiding your IP address. Proxy to bypass restrictions, blocked websites, hide your browsing history and protect your identity online.”
Funny part is, it does very little of any of that. I don’t really care, though I am somewhat amused…more amused with recent anonymous comments made (that were deleted) encouraging me to post the rest of the story. I’d have to go back to December 07 to do so, and not terribly interested in doing so…perhaps I may have jumped to conclusions about who this initial visitor was, but there was plenty of track record to base it on. Still, visits using a really bad anonymizing proxy to attempt to cover the browser’s tracks and conceal identity just screams suspicion.
Here’s the info on the trail it leaves:

And a second entry, different IP a few days later:

Not a very good advertisement for himself/herself.
Scott, I need to learn from the master how to track this kind of stuff. I got an Anonymous comment that I'd be interesting in knowing if it was either Microsoft or the Trusted Computing Group [smile].Any quick tips you'd like to share on your blog on how I can "check out" people who try to maintain a low profile? ~Luke
