Operation Safe Drinking Water
- by Scott
I’ve hinted in recent weeks about the organization that I am excited to have become a part of and do some volunteer work for…and that non-profit is Operation Safe Drinking Water.
According to UNICEF, unsanitary drinking water is the #1 killer of children in developing countries. Often, villages and families have no other choice, perpetuating a cycle of disease and sickness. Operation Safe Drinking Water’s approach is simple: catch, store and share the same rainfall that creates the disease-bearing puddles.
I love the simple approach, and love even more that the organization is completely volunteer, which means that the donations go to the work, not some of it to salaries. Despite my IT background, I really appreciate that the solution is low-tech.
In the coming weeks, I’ll be sharing more on their work. And at some point in the relatively near future, I’ll be traveling to Panama to be able to take part in the work…and blog about it firsthand. In the meantime, check out the information and pictures on the website. Consider giving.
And stay tuned.
