Another Curious Census Statement

Since the previous Census post garnered some level of Department of Justice interest, I might as well take advantage of it.
I’ve been thinking about the race questions more, so went back to the official Constituent FAQ from the Census Bureau, and found this statement:
Information on race is required for many federal programs and is critical in making policy decisions, particularly for civil rights. States use these data to meet legislative redistricting principles. (Emphasis mine)
Yeah…the government’s all about equality and fairness.
