All Riled Up…

Read a blog post this morning that got me a little fired up…no, not in the cheerleader ra-ra kind of way either.
It’s a business post entitled Why micro businesses will never fully succeed.
The post defined a micro business as one that is 1-3 people and under $250,000 in revenue. In other words, me and my business.
What it didn’t do was define success. It implied it as making more money.
Disappointment.
There are a myriad of reasons people start their own businesses. For me, it’s a combination of freedom, flexibility, relationships, and wanting to teach my kids that being pigeon-holed into a “job” is not the only course of action–that despite the deck stacked against them, despite the onerous burdens the government puts on business owners (especially once you hire employees), that they can do it.
More money doesn’t address any of that.
Not that more can’t be a good thing, but for some of us it completely misses the point.

Funny how success in America is only defined in dollars. I think success is a LOT more than that. Your reasons are great examples. Success can be flexibility, not being tied down to a strict schedule, ability to make your own decisions without permission and more.
