Beware of Saving the Republic…

Julius Caesar entered Rome under the banner of saving the Republic. Within years, reforms were instituted, power was consolidated, and the very Republic that he claimed to be saving was replaced with a dictatorship.

The French Revolution overthrew the monarchy, enacted reforms, established the Republic…and within years they had Napoleon as dictator.

These are just two of many examples, with the point being this: as we enter into yet another political cycle, beware of those on both the Left and the Right claiming to be saving the Republic…historically, the ideals of the Republic are one of the very first things to be “reformed”.
