The Boston Bombings…
- by Scott
There’s been plenty of speculation about the tragedy in Boston, fueled in part by the investigation and not wanting to release information, partly by media not wanting to jump the gun regarding responsibility for the attack, partly because of conflicting reports, and some even speculate a conspiracy or cover-up. I think it’s easy to understand all of those reasons. And yet the withholding of information is what allows such speculation to exist and to grow.
What do you think?
I’ve been asked, and personally I do not believe in the idea of some sort of conspiracy involving government agencies for the same reasons I don’t believe the same theories about 9/11: it would take a monumental effort to not only create such a conspiracy, but to control it. People slip up. People talk. People boast. And in such cases, we’d be talking about a huge group of people involved.
What I do believe, though, is that there are plenty within the government who will absolutely use the tragedy to advance their agenda. Without a doubt. It was, after all, the former White House Chief of Staff Rahm Emanuel that exclaimed “[y]ou never let a serious crisis go to waste. And what I mean by that is an opportunity to do things you think you could not do before.”
I also think it’s telling that a number of media talking heads and certain government officials attempted to make an inference to “right-wing extremists” because it occurred on ‘Tax Day’. I do not think that is the case at all–nor has it been historically in the U.S.–but I think it is, in fact, the direction they will try to take it barring any concrete evidence to the contrary or barring any cover-up that would show otherwise. Considering initial reports discussed a possible Saudi national under guard, that’s a real possibility.
But I’m interested in what others think about the situation. What do you think happened? What do you think politically will happen as a result? And more importantly, why?

That is a famous, and true, quote.
I think it will be found to be domestic terrorism. Wasn't big enough to be an int'l effort.
Hopefully they won't try banning or registering pressure cookers, nails and scrap metal.
I foresee a further attack on privacy. It is already determined that we have no right to privacy when in a public space as regards being filmed. Bet we start seeing even more cameras. "These cameras will be unmanned and only reviewed in case of emergency" is how it will be sold.
Yeah, right.
Update…apparently FBI is planning on releasing pics of two suspects tomorrow. Interesting thing is if you Google news stories–or even just images–of the Boston bombing suspects, there are 5 or 6 individuals that video or pics have picked up on…mainly because of the black backpacks. Two are dressed in military-like garb (one of which definitely has an olive complexion, the other couldn\’t tell), two that are dressed casually and look very Middle Eastern, one that looks almost looks like an slightly older than middle age disheveled white guy, and a younger guy that when one of the blasts happened, ran opposite from everyone else.
My gut tells me they will parade out the pics of the two most Caucasian. Just my gut.
I'm surprised how buried the news story from the same day about the attempted ricin poisonings of the congressman andthe Prez have been. Not front page here. More likethird page. Someone attempted to assasinate the President, ho-hum, nothing to see here.
