Has the Culture Shifted That Much?

I was recently paid a compliment on social media about how we’re handling our little girl’s issues and how we parent. (For those that don’t know, you can follow her journey on Evanna’s Facebook Community Page).
I understood the intent–it was a very nice and sincere compliment, but I kind of brushed it aside.
To us, we feel that all we are doing is loving our little girl and taking care of her the best we can.
What I have a hard time wrapping my head around is this: how in the world did something so simple, so basic become such a contrast to life around us? Has our culture shifted so much that the simple act of loving an innocent little one is so different?
I don’t have that answer…and I fear that answer a bit.
